Death Valley has a history that dates back farther than the 1700's. Before a group of lost pioneers lived here, native americas used to flourish in this land. Somewhere in the 1800's, miners and pioneers came looking for gold and silver to mine. They ended up in Death Valley, and regretted they ever came. One group of pioneers got lost, and couldn't stand the heat. They also couldn't find any water- the land was as dry as bone! One of the pioneers had named the place Death Valley, for they thought that land was going to be their grave. Luckily, the other groups of pioneers found them, and everything turned out ok in the end. Even so today, you can still go to Death Valley and see some of the old mining towns, and mines that used to exist.
Death Valley was discovered in January of 1848, by these lost pioneers. People call them the lost 49'ers.
